Meet a Novice: Sophie

CTOL: Introduce yourself…

SOPHIE: Hi, my name is Sophie and I’m 24 years old. I grew up together with my five siblings in a small village in the north of Bavaria, Germany. For the past few years I’ve been studying Catholic Theology in Freiburg. For half a year I went to South America to work in a rural nursery in Peru and then did an internship with a Diocese in Colombia. I like travelling and learning other languages.

CTOL: Where did you hear about the Community of the Tree of Life and why did you want to become a Novice?

SOPHIE: I talked with a friend about Fresh Expressions of Church and she mentioned New Monasticism. Reading about it I’ve discovered the Community of the Tree of Life online.

I think it’s worth taking the time to discover the different sources of a Christian life, like prayer and monastic traditions.

CTOL: What are your hopes and dreams for this Novice year?

SOPHIE: I’m looking forward to good encounters with other people. I hope that prayer becomes an important part of my daily life and to discover how it looked for other people to search God.

CTOL: What can we pray for you?

SOPHIE: You could pray that I keep being open towards others and that I may seek God sincerely.
