24hr Prayer Leicester

24hr Prayer Leicester began as part of our vision to help people ENTER into prayer, ENLARGE their experiences of prayer, and to develop EVERYDAY practices. This monthly event is an opportunity to work with and resource the prayer of Christians in Leicester. The invitation of 24hr Prayer Leicester is to join with Christians from around Leicester to pray nonstop for 24 hours and fill a day with prayer. We also create 60 minute prayer guides to help people pray through the hour.

In January, 24hr Prayer Leicester joined in with the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The hour-long prayer guide focussed on WPCU’s 2022theme ‘We Saw a Star in the East’, created by Christians in the Middle East and praying for Christians to come together around issues of inequality, injustice and dishonesty. Thank you to everyone who signed up for an hour of prayer – especially in the early hours of the morning!

On the 20th of January, a group of Christians from Leicester gathered in the Community of the Tree of Life Chapel for an hour of praying together. The Tree of Life, Leicester Cathedral, Holy Trinity Leicester, the Watchmen on the Wall prayer group, Imprint church and St Nicholas Church were all represented as we prayer together.

In February, the theme was Images of God, in which we partnered with Leicester Cathedral’s Global Voices Webinar in thinking about our images of God: does it matter whether all of us can recognise ourselves in our images of God? If you missed the webinar, you can watch it HERE.

In our Community worship over the 24 hours, we used images of a just and compassionate God to inspire our prayers for Ukraine, and for those in Russia protesting the invasion. We found that these images can help us pray when we are lost for words.

For 24hr Prayer Leicester this month, we are praying into Modern Day Slavery. Our 60 minute prayer resource will be created in partnership with Christians in Leicester and Leicestershire against Modern Day Slavery, and we will be hosting the Knitted Chain in our Community chapel from the 21st-28th March. Drop us an email at info@leicestertreeoflife.org if you would like to come along and use our chapel to prayer whist it is here. You can sign up to pray for March 24hr Prayer and download prayer guides here: https://leicestertreeoflife.org/24hrsleicester/.

If you or your church would like to get involved in organising and leading 24hr Prayer Leicester one month, then let us know! We are looking forward to partnering with more churches and communities as 24hr Prayer Leicester grows, and are excited to see what God will do.
